Within....God's Covenant.

     Within....God's Covenant.
Sometime later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him: Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there: I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food. So he went Zarephath. I kings 17:7-10. In essence the widow of Zarephath was a Custodian of God’s Treasures making her suitable for God’s use.
Things to note:
I.                    God said I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food. Funnily when she got Elijah got to the woman, she said I don’t have any bread- only a handful of jar and a little oil in a jug.. was she denying the ‘command’ of God?
No! She is not. She wouldn’t have been in the place she was gathering the few sticks that Elijah saw her if God had not guarded her to that particular place. Unknown to her she was just gathering stick for the purpose of what she said but God had prepared her for a certain purpose.
May God guide your feet to where God’s divine purpose will be fulfilled in our life this month in Jesus name.
II.                  As surely as the Lord your God lives.... with the situation of this widow she did not misbehave. Many people reacts to situations with over temperament, it was possible for this to have replied the man of God and say ‘are you out of your senses? Do I look look someone that can meet your need?....and so on. But instead she was polite in her response maybe because her situation did not block her discerning spirit to recognize that Elijah was a man of God.
May you not misbehave to your helper at the time of divine visitation this new month in Jesus name.
III.                .....Make a meal for myself and my son that we may eat it – and die. V.12 best known to this widow she was in a hopeless situation. But because she is within the covenant of God as a Custodian of God’s divine Treasure. God sees beyond her hopeless situation and sent to her a divine help.
In this new month may your hopelessness turn to absolute testimony
IV.                She went away and did as Elijah had told her v.15 OBEDIENCE. She obeyed the voice of God and prepared the food. Alas! There was food everyday for Elijah and for the woman and her family. Reward of obedience.
Lord!  Help me to obey your command either convenient or not convenient.
V.                  Sometime later the son of the woman became ill and later stopped breathing. God’s test! She said to Elijah, what do you have against me man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son? Verse 17. (Laughs!) But this woman had once said she was gathering sticks to take home and make a meal for herself and her son that they may eat it –and die. Oh! God has provided she and her son do not want to die again. Well, that was not God’s plan for the Custodians of HIS divine Treasures.
God! I refuse to die before the fulfillment of your divine purpose for my life.
VI.                V.22 ...the Lord heard Elijah’s cry and the boy’s life returned to him and he lived. He gave him to his mother and said Look, your son is alive. Her son could have died if she had not obeyed the instruction of God through Elijah.
Not every human are within God’s covenant. No wonder Jesus said: it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs. Mathew 17:26. Some are born into God’s covenant; some are adopted through the son. Whichever way, what is important is abiding within the covenant of God.
Lord!  give me grace within your covenant that I may enjoy the fullness of your goodness.
Cheers!
