OF HONESTY
Honesty in
general meaning is the quality of being honest. Honest then means “always
telling the truth and never stealing or cheating, not hiding the truth.” The
Bible in simple and precise interpretation refer to it as “being faithful”
Honesty and faithfulness can be used interchangeably. Human being as an
embodiment of flesh found it difficult to be honest in all facets of life. All
over the world, only few can boast a lifestyle of honesty. Every facets of
human endeavor are filled with avenues and situations that influence
compromise. Jesus Christ describes honest people as those that which in an
honest and good heart, having heard the word keep it and bring forth fruit with
patience. Luke 8:15.
This implies
that an honest person requires a lot of patience to be able to bring forth a
good fruit. No wonder many people cannot endure the time, but rather, they
preferred fast returns such as ‘fast fast’ or ‘sharp sharp’. There have been
cases of distrust, disappointments, pains, agonies, distress, depression and in
fact untimely death resulting from relationships, friendships, families,
colleagues, groups, congregation, neighborhood and associates due to an
individual or group that may want to gain an undue benefit or advantage. This
may arise from envy, reveling and strife.
As children of
God, Honesty is an attribute that should be part of us. Even if we are
surrounded by dishonest people. The Bible says we should provide things honest
in the sight of all men. Romans 13:17
